...For well over 25 years, Sonic the Hedgehog has been a household name and has had many adventures. I have been a fan since childhood and even love the not so great Sonic games, so my review may come off biased, but it's not and its my honest opinion. For this review, I played on an Xbox One X and had the deluxe edition DLC for my play-through. There will be spoilers!! The first icon you see is Dr. Egg-man, and he is leading the story's intro, then after his segment we see Tails, Amy and Sonic flying around until they get sucked into another dimension/cyber space. As soon as you land on the first mysterious island, you are prompted to go explore the land. This is when the game takes your classic 3D Sonic Adventure and turns it into Hedgehog of War, yes, it's funky open world, but zoned like Legends Arceus. There are 5 islands in which you unlock portals (cyber space/classic levels, fishing spots,) collect chaos emeralds, collect portal keys and portal gears to progress the story. This story gets deep, like no right to be as good as it was deep. The ending makes you feel for Egg-man, all I'm saying. Each area has its main boss aka Titans and then you obviously have mini bosses aka guardians. Each one has a unique move-set, but some are beefed up variants which is fine because each one still felt unique to me. There are also normal enemies across the map to help gain experience points. As stated above, you gain experience in this game. Your experience is used to buy/unlock skills to make Sonic's new fighting style even better than any previous entry in the franchise. You also collect attack and defense seeds to increase their levels, Kocos for Ring capacity and Speed upgrade. I suggest going speed first. I really don't have anything negative to say about this game other than the same broken rail system in another Sonic game, but this one made them not as broken. I cane across 0 frame rate drop, no glitches or bugs, and never had to restart from a save because of me getting stuck. I mentioned the fishing spots earlier, this brings in Big the Cat. You use fishing coins you find or earn to fish which either brings you a fish, or an easter egg of sorts. This game cured that itch for a flawless 3D Sonic game, so my overall Wumpa Fruit score for Sonic Frontiers is a 10/10!!! If you haven't, play this game or watch a stream of it because this is the Sonic we have begged for.
