I'm really trying to not be this guy lately but.... The "Resident Evil" Netflix series really was not for fans of "Resident Evil". "Constantin films" has been behind all the live action so far. There's nothing nostalgic about a rewrite and it has little to do with any actual call to action outside of what consumers want to hear. The new movie was better and the new movie was still more nostalgic than all the live action adaptions have been so far combined. In my opinion none of it was EVER for "fans of the game". They should see how, just making a loyal adaptation with a script that favors what actual fans have say about it does for metrics without seeming like they are trying to force an opinion of the art at the same time.
Now, the VFX in this show ARE good and so is production! I also think the monsters are really cool and do strive a bit to hit home with fans of the game but still W.S. Anderson's fan fiction is the best in that regard and as a stand alone movie if you can just set apart from the other story; it DOES become really visually appealing as the movies progress. They were also the best use of the "Real D 3D" system to date. the O.G. films are incredibly STRONG sci-fi horror adaptations that could just share a title in the same universe very easily. This was a another cash grab plain and simple in my eyes though and the campaign to make it sound like it was better than it really was, is just lying to push the results they want in spite of any real credibility or criticism and that's just how a lot of these companies have always been anyway. "What will people buy, fuck what they want. We'll make them want it." That is toxic to me in my very humble opinion. I'd not watch this show twice, still had it's moments so I'm not all bad and I would still rather it be it's own thing because with a different working title or making it in light of "outbreak" and making it a survivor story, I might have been sold differently and I could have a different opinion on what I watched. Making such crucial changes though will always create divides and put fans of the original art in a line of fire for judgment. That is not fan service at the end of the day and the actions of producers become selfish at that point. Again, just an opinion from another nobody floating on this mud ball of content. Until next time, JT.
